What is Wisdom?

This morning I was challenged with the question “What is Wisdom?”. Sure, I’d read a lot about wisdom, but I have to admit that it’s something I hadn’t ever tried to define. My attempt at describing it had to do with illumination of rightness and some notion of a moral compass or the fabric of your character.

There was some great discussion around the table as we slid ideas around the table. You could feel the weight of the question even at 5:30 AM. Here are some of my favorite quotes from our time together:

We are the accumulation of all of our choices
God requires long obedience in the same direction
Wisdom is the ability to know how to do the right thing in all situations
Wisdom is about forming right patterns

At the end of the discussion I wasn’t sure if I had become any better at describing what wisdom is. I know that after we talked about the implications it has on life that I want more of it.
